Machine Maintenance Monday?

1:00:00 AM

I always try to make a point of giving my machine a good cleaning any time I start a new project...and the title of this post is a little bit of false advertising since I never get a chance to sit down at my machine on a Monday, but I do love an alliteration...hehe

So, a couple of weeks ago when I started sewing blocks for the Classic meets Modern QAL, I took all the bits and pieces of my machine apart and commenced cleaning...

Now, keep in mind, I haven't really been doing a lot of sewing as of late. I was quite sick with this last pregnancy, and then recovering from the c-section, so my creative area and sewing machine haven't seen a lot of use in the last several months. Even so, I consider myself to be pretty diligent about maintaining my machine and all of its moving parts.

But look at this:

Eep! This is the Godzilla of Lint Bunnies!!
... I pulled that lint bunny (more like Lint Godzilla) out of the bobbin casing/assembly. Can you believe that?!

So!

When you sit down at your machine next, and if you haven't lately, take the plate off your machine, do a little tidy-tidy, a little bit of dusting, brush out your dogs...your machine will love you for it.

**shudder**

  2. This is sew important. I don't know if one can clean and oil too often, but last time I took my Bernina in for a yearly service and cleaning...I was told I could wait 2 years next time. I sew very often, I figure for what we often pay for a machine...better take good care of em!

  3. It always surprises me how much you can collect from the bobbin case. No wonder I am buying threads so often ;-)

  4. I know what you mean! I find my machine like this at times. It really does matter what thread I'm using..some are more linty than others.

  5. That's fun you mentioned it! I took mine apart Saturday and gave it a thorough cleaning. Mine wasn't too bad! I keep up on it regularly. =)
