The Amethyst Block: Classic meets Modern QAL, FEBRUARY!

12:00:00 AM

Hello all!

Happy February 1st! Are you ready to sew a fab new classic block?!

What better block to do for the month of February than the "Amethyst" block - February's birthstone. This is a simplified version of the original Amethyst block.

Now. Don't be afraid, quilters. This block has 4 y-seams in it. YOU CAN DO IT. Y-seams are not hard, they just take a little patience.

Here are the instructions for this month's block! (note: the block will come out a bit larger than 12.5" to allow for squaring).

The Amethyst Block: FEBRUARY's Classic meets Modern block instructions - click here!

And here are my blocks for the month as a little bit of inspiration for you:
Continuing with my red & aqua theme

... and the V. and Co. line

And a pic of my blocks from the QAL so far:

I can't wait to see what you do with your blocks. Remember, you can put any spin you like on this block.

why not improve piece the center square?

or

foundation piece a strippy triangle or two, or four!

or

reverse your background color with the star shape (creating the block in a negative)?

ANYTHING GOES! Whatever 'modern' is to you, that's what we all want to see.

Remember to upload your block(s) for this month to the Flickr group and then here in the links below to win the next thing up for grabs from my stash....

a Lime Rickey apron pattern!

Please only upload one image of each block you create; only new blocks created for this QAL can be entered. Entries accepted only until March 15. Please ensure to use a valid email address when linking your photos up below.

    1. Hey Jen! Will reply here, you're a no-reply blogger ;)
(if you want to fix that, here's a tutorial: http://www.sewathomemummy.com/2013/01/are-you-no-reply-blogger.html)
I fixed your link for you, you were just using the wrong URL from Flickr.

To use the right one, in flickr, when you're viewing your photo, click the little box with the arrow coming out of it to the bottom right of your photo; a link will appear, copy the entire thing (CTRL+C); then come back here, click "Add your link" to the linky-party above. Entire the Flickr link in the box provided (CTRL+V) and upload. Select your photo from the pop up, and complete the link up :)
