Classic meets Modern QAL: August! - The Churn Dash

7:30:00 AM

Yippee!!

Sew at Home Mummy

It's August. So we need a quick and easy block, right? Most of us are eager to get outside and spend some time in the sunshine. For those who are in the midst of winter right now, BOO!! I hope it's not too grey and dreary down there. But, if it is, what a great day to be sewing!

This month, for the Classic meets Modern QAL, we'll be tackling the Churn Dash block. Probably one of the most traditional, iconic blocks, this is a quick and easy one to put together, and a very good example of when being simple doesn't have to mean it's not stunning.

If you're just joining us for the first time, welcome! Feel free to play along. Each month I post instructions to a very classic/traditional block, with a bit of a modern spin - be it in composition, style, or fabric choices. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to join in on the fun and put your spin on the block (and feel free to just use my instructions, or to take the proverbial ball and run with it! But please - no running with scissors.)

Previous month's instructions are posted in the right sidebar of my blog.

Please be respectful of my original patterns and work - and make sure that if you use my tutorials, you credit it back to me.

Okay! Let's get going, shall we?

Here are this month's blocks!

Please feel free to link your finished block(s) up below - we all love to see what everyone is up to.

I know I am personally having a BLAST seeing what everyone's blocks look like each month!

  1. Love the red and blue treatment! Maybe this month I'll have time to play. Or maybe I'll take one of the previous blocks and make a quilt. I have a month to decide. Love the first of the month.

  6. The guild I belong to has been doing the traditional churn dash for our lotto blocks each month. We each make two blocks and then one person wins a set and then the others are made into a charity quilt. The color for August is gold, I'll have to make 3 this month and make one for myself that is wonky.
