TGIFF: A mini apple core quilt (charm sized)

1:37:00 PM

Hola peeps!

Today I'm linking up with TGIFF: Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday, and today it's over at What a Hoot!.

Head over there when you're done here and take a look at her "Patriots in Petticoats" quilt - it is absolutely amazing!
Oh my goodness, "thank goodness it's finished" doesn't begin to describe this beast I've been working on!
It might be little:
... but holy shmoley, there were times when I just had to walk.away.now.breathe.relax.count-to-ten.

hahaha.

It's an apple core quilt, made from 5"x5" charm squares. It's finished size is about 26"x30", and I made it specifically for my daughter. It's the first time I've sewn curved seams for  quilt, and the first time I sewed with minky. Also the first time I ever needed booze each night after plugging away on a quilt. Sheesh.

The quilt will be used as a stroller & car seat blanket, and I customized it with mitten clips on the upper backside:
...so that it can be clipped to her straps so she can't kick it off or, like last week, eliminate the chance of the "mommy - running - down - the - road - after - the - blown - away - blanket" scene (I love Chicago, but sometimes I hate Chicago...)
TAKE THAT, WIND!!!

I'll be writing up a tutorial on this in the next week or so with all of my tips for "Tips & Tricks Tuesdays":
... make sure to stop by, and if you like, let's party! If you have a tip, trick or tutorial you want to post on your blog and then link up here, that would be great!

- watch for it!

/crazy mother, OUT!

  1. Lol love it! The quilt looks so bright and sweet! I just tackled curves for the first time too - I couldn't imagine doing a whole quilt of it though.

Funny - I visited Chicago once years ago and the wind is definitely something I remember from that trip! Love your modification to the quilt to keep it safe in the pram!

    1. The wind is great - it's so refreshing! And I guess there's a reason they call Chicago the windy city, hahaha.

  2. LOL is right! It might have been very challenging, but it certainly was worth it. It looks great! The mitten clips is genius! I wish I'd thought of that when I needed it. I can't remember how many times it was me running after the quilt or running over it with the stroller. Great job!

  3. Turned out really pretty despite the desire to walk away from it. Glad you made it. And I love Chicago in spite of the wind. I grew up in Michigan so Chicago was the closest big city and I adore the Shedd Aqurium and the Field Museum.

  5. What a terrific idea, incorporating the mitten clips! This turned out so nicely with the colors on the front and the rich purple minkee for the back. Yeah, it's tough quilting on that, isn't it? But it's SOOO stinkin' soft, you just gotta use it sometimes. :D
