Life has been more than crazy lately, and it took surgery last week and forced convalescence to actually sit and write a blog post. 

BAD BLOGGER!!

As a lot of my readers know, we recently purchased a home, and at the end of February moved 2 crazy kidlets and a chocolate labby boy into our new nest. More on that, soon.

So, as a bit of a present from me for participating along with me for my first quilt along and for showing me what your interpretation of modern is, I contacted my super awesome quilty buddy at Sew Shabby Quilting, Melissa. And she's offered up a little something for one of you, and I'm throwing in some goodies from my stash, too....you may have read on my blog that I send a lot of my bigger quilts to Melissa to quilt for me. Because she is awesome. 

Firstly, her edge-to-edge computerized quilting is super reasonably priced and is gorgeous.

1. Quilt tops must be from and contain blocks from the Classic meets Modern Quilt along hosted here on Sew at Home Mummy (links to patterns and instructions in right sidebar)
2. Quilt tops need not be quilted - they can be just the assembled top.
3. Quilt tops need to be linked up above by March 31 at 12am CST to qualify for the drawing.
4. International residents welcomed to participate.
5. Winner chosen by random number and announced sometime after April 1.

Oh my goodness.
Every waking moment for the last several weeks has been full to the brim with kiddy and house-y related things. This has kept me away from my sewing much more than I would like, but, that's life!

I thought I would share the WIP I've been trying to work on when I have any down time (ha!)....it's my first of two quilt tops I'll be assembling for the Classic meets Modern QAL I hosted last year here on my blog.

 ...several years ago I was at a quilt show and was partaking in a bit of shopping, when I came across a charm pack of moda's Vintage Modern. When we last moved, it was parked in a bin and I only just came across it in the fall this past year and knew it would fit the theme of my aqua and red blocks perfectly. I decided to use it as corner pieces in the sashing, and I think it looks really pretty.

I also have a few FQs and bits and pieces of Vintage Modern I've slowly collected over the years, and thought it best to integrate it into the backside of the quilt.

But: when it came to cutting the fabric up to make blocks and such I couldn't.  I needed a way to showcase the beauty of this line while making the back more interesting than just using huge pieces of the stuff.

So. What better a way to showcase the line than set-in circles?
I'm plugging away now on these circles. Takes a while, since I'm (obviously) a pinner...but that's okay. I love piecing circles!

Hi all!

It's December!

The weather is colder, holidays are around the corner. It's the final month of the Classic meets Modern QAL (boo hoo!) and I thought we'd go out with a bang.

I have been sketching and working this block for quite a few months; I knew I wanted to do a star block of some kind, and I like the look of this one and how it turned out.

It's a little bit of cutting, and has a few small pieces - but it's beautiful, and totally worth it.

I've done two options again for this month, but as always, I love to see what your spin is on this block - fabrics, colors, composition - have fun with it - that's the name of this game!

The block setting diagrams are being drafted as we speak - I have sketched them all out and am currently trying to figure out how to diagram them on Publisher, lol.  Hang tight on this one.

It's September!

Kids are going back to school, the leaves are starting to turn, the weather is (hopefully!) getting a bit cooler.

Why not celebrate this (my favorite!) time of year with a nice Maple Leaf block? (plus, I'm missing home like crazy lately [I'm from Vancouver originally] and I thought I'd throw a bit of Canadiana into the mix ;))

This block is a really quick and simple block, even simpler than last month's Churn Dash pattern. It's basically a bunch of squares and HSTs. With a stem. I am really pleased with how my blocks turned out for this month, and am excited to one day create an entire quilt of these leaves!

It's August. So we need a quick and easy block, right? Most of us are eager to get outside and spend some time in the sunshine. For those who are in the midst of winter right now, BOO!! I hope it's not too grey and dreary down there. But, if it is, what a great day to be sewing!

This month, for the Classic meets Modern QAL, we'll be tackling the Churn Dash block. Probably one of the most traditional, iconic blocks, this is a quick and easy one to put together, and a very good example of when being simple doesn't have to mean it's not stunning.
