Stash building, on a budget - and a golden giveaway :)
6:00:00 AMGood morning, all.
Saturday morning, my mail lady dropped a beautiful package on my doorstep - my monthly subscription bundle from Tammy at Marmalade Fabrics.
My little family of four survives on a single income (hubby's) in this big city of Chicago. We coupon. We thrift. We walk instead of drive. We live on a very tight budget. This has been a difficult transition for me - in Vancouver, I made more money than my husband, using the ample number of letters behind my name; we owned a home; had 2 cars; lots in the savings account. Here in Chicago we rent. I don't work (couldn't until I got my green card). Have one car. And now, we have two little ones.
My husband and I have an allowance of $20 each for each pay-cheque. $40 a month. If I want to buy any fabric or sewing supplies, I use my allowance. If my husband wants a bottle of single malt, he uses his allowance.
Here's what I spend half of my allowance on each month:
The bundles come in either solids:
Marmalade's FQB Around The Color Wheel Bundle, March: Solid Gold: Solids ($12.60!!) |
or prints:
Marmalade's FQB Around the Color Wheel, March: Gold Prints ($17.50!) |
Last year I subscribed to Tammy's solids color wheel, and it was a fantastic way to build up my solids stash...
...this year, I've subscribed to her prints color wheel bundles... and for the month of March, look at this beautiful bundle I received in the mail Saturday:
golden gorgeousness |
I absolutely *love* the subscription. It's no obligation - meaning she sends you a request for payment each month, the payment isn't automatically charged, so if you need to skip a month, you can.
The bundles are so affordable, and never fail to impress. Last year the solids I received were totally awesome, and colors which I use all the time.
And what's better than receiving a squishy package once a month with a beautiful surprise inside? NOTHING I say, nothing. Tee hee. It's like Christmas, monthly.
And Marmalade has an awesome points program, fantastic lightening-speed shipping, awesome pricing, and fantastic customer service. Tammy, the owner, is *so* sweet and fantastic to deal with!
I was so happy to have Marmalade Fabrics join me in sponsoring my blog - and in celebration, Tammy is giving up a fat quarter bundle of some Golden Goodness for one of my lucky readers!
Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter the giveaway - you don't need to have a Facebook account to enter, just log-in to the widget with your email address.
Good luck everyone! The giveaway will remain open until March 31!

ReplyDeletewow did you ever convince me that I need to join this color wheel club
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear I'm not the only one on fabric-buying rations. Sometimes I feel a little left out when others are buying, buying, buying, but then I remind myself I always have enough to keep me sewing, so that's enough.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful selection of fabrics. Love the color wheel bundle club plan. I would love to both solids and prints. Thanks ever so much.

Beautiful fabric. I used to live in Chicago. It's not easy but start going to garage sales. You can find great stuff especially in the Spring.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics. Enjoy your blog a great deal.
ReplyDeleteI ♥ to hear from you!
