{Orange!} Crush... hugs & kisses blog hop!
11:00:00 PMHi All, and welcome to Sew at Home Mummy, the next stop on the "Hugs & Kisses" Blog Hop!
I just want to thank Mdm Samm of !Sew WE Quilt! and Jane from Jane's Fabrics and Quilts for hosting this hop - they take a LOT of work, I'm sure, and they're great cheerleaders!
I pretty much knew what I was going to do as soon as I signed up - I'd always wanted to make one of these triple-zipper pouches, and, I thought, how nice would it be with an inset heart on the front?
Then I got crazy, and thought - ha! lets ruffle the inset heart!
Then I got SUPER crazy, and at the last minute, ditched the pink and went with a shade of orange in the Kate Spain "Cuzco" print.
Quilters, sewers and crafters alike, I give you.... "{Orange} Crush"!
I used a pale-pink embroidery thread to blanket stitch around the outside of the heart, and added color coordinated pink zippers and accent pieces.
I have to confess, the pouch above was my second attempt - my first didn't turn out as nice as I would have liked...
It's nice enough, but my satin stitching around the outside of the heart isn't great, so I made another, lol.
Anyway, here are my two pouches!
Now, for the giveaway!
I'm offering up three fat quarters of Matsuri Lawn cotton lawn (voile-type cotton).
To enter, leave a short comment telling me what you're doing for Valentine's Day.
Once you're finished here, make sure to go and see all of the other lovely ladies on today's bit of the hop!
Sew at Home Mummy - **you are here!!**

Thanks for visiting, and good luck!

OH, that is such a cute idea with the ruffled heart inserted.
ReplyDeleteI really like it.
I made a tablerunner.
And a lot of other projects in my mind, but they will probably never see day light - not enough time. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteOrange Crush is great! So many zippers--wow.
ReplyDeleteFor Valentines Day I am making brownie pops, if I can get to the store and get some chocolate. Doctor's appt for me (Kaiser assigned me V-day, I did NOT request it) and project presentations in my 4th graders class. But we are getting over the awful cold running through out house, so YAY.
Nothing special - except a card and chocolate for my sweetie. I love your pouches. I see what your saying about the satin stitch on the first one - but I do love the colours you used in that one a lot. Orange Crush is gorgeous as well.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby is taking me out to dinner for Valentine's Day! Darling pouches!! Thank you for the chance!

ReplyDeleteMy hubby is taking me somewhere secret on Saturday... Have no clue as to where... and most likely out to dinner tonight for a steak. We have swore off bringing beef in the house for 2013 and have agreed only to have it on occassion and to do so we have to go to the steak house. Well, it has been a while since we had a tasty steak so I figure we will grace the door of Texas Roadhouse tonight. :)
Sew cute! Not doing anything special today except take my dog to get her nails clipped. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCrushing on the little orange heart! :) So cute!
ReplyDeleteI will be celebrating today sewing...then on Monday, my husband has the day off....possibly a trip to the Zoo. :)
Just love your pouches. Both the heart and the orange crush are precious. Today I am going to a bake sale at the Sonora Regional Hospital. Thank you for giving all of your Valentine followers a chance to win those fat quarters and for taking the time to make the Hugs and Kisses Blog Hop even more fun for us to enjoy. ReplyDeleteErin, great job! Is there a place to find a pattern for the triple zip pouch? My first husband and I are going to spend the afternoon together and I'm going to cook dinner for us. We divorced 15 years ago last month and had not spoken to each other until last November. We walked our daughter down the aisle at her wedding in 2004 - one on each side and did not say a word to each other. We are were married for 23.5 years and have two children and now three grandsons. We are now friends again and actually dating. We were each married to someone else in the interim. What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

ReplyDeleteLove your heart embellishment! My DH is going out of town for a poker tournament right after school today so we will celebrate next week as I've had a a cold this week. Bonus though is that I have 4 days to do LOTS of quilting!

Tomorrow I'll be driving with the 15yo up to Boulder to take the 19yo out for lunch (payday!) because she sent a super-cute text a couple days ago asking if we'd be her Valentine.

ReplyDeleteCute pouches - thanks for sharing. For Valentine's Day today, I went to work, came home & kissed my husband goodbye (he's going to a basketball game), & I'll watch Project Runway tonight.
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day will consist of a dinner I do not have to make (hubby's handling V-day dinner for the first time since we've been together), I already got some gourmet chocolate treats and adorable cards from hubby and my son (almost 21 months).
ReplyDeleteFawn
What fun to add that splash of orange to the bag! Great projects for a sweet blog hop. Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. We just having a dinner at our favorite restaurant.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful bags, I love them! No valentine's day plans -- I had to work at the only time my 'other' was free. But I'm still laughing at the e-card he sent while he was away, and I'll spend a happy evening warm inside while I listen to the wind blow. :)

I took my 88 year-old friend out to lunch today. We have so much fun together! She lives in assisted living and enjoys getting out so much. We made a stop at the card shop, too. Cute pouches and orange crush is perfect. Happy V Day!
ReplyDeleteI went for a bike ride (to help offset the chocolate!), volunteered at my son's school, and then my sweet husband is taking me out to dinner (son gets leftovers!!). Happy Valentines Day to you.
ReplyDeleteWe went out to supper, including our 3-yr old...at McDonalds. Still better than cooking!
ReplyDeleteI'm not doing much for Valentine's this year...but I am enjoying my loved ones! :)
ReplyDeleteErin, very unique and I'm sure tricky to do triple pouches. I'm celebrating Val. Day with having some Gumbo with family at home. My Granddaughter (age 7) and I made a sweet vanilla cake sprinkled with alot of love (heart and pink candied hearts on an aqua colored vanilla frosting) for the dessert. Jane
ReplyDeleteHi!!! Love your pouches and the fabrics you used!! Thank You
ReplyDeleteCute pouches We are staying in watching basketball. Thank Becky

Your heart on the pouches is unique. Valentine's Day here is the same every year. I make his favorite dinner and I don't do any expecting.
ReplyDeleteCelebrating tomorrow with fondue!
ReplyDeleteWe're saving our Valentine celebration until Sat. We're driving up to Idyllwild, a quaint mountain town about 90 minutes away from here. Going to have lunch at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. Been going there for years. Loved your pouches!
ReplyDeleteYour zippered pouchs are great! I actually made this same pouch about two weeks ago. How clever you are to have the ruffled heart cutout in front, that's amazing. I'm making more of these in the future so maybe I'll try your idea, hehe. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me! Super job!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a neat giveaway and a chance to win.

My day was spent at our weekly sit n sew, lunch with the girls, and then our guild meeting tonight. It was a great day. Thanks for sharing your cute pouches and for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute pouches, luv the ruffled heart. A quiet day, spent the evening with my sweetie, passed on going to my quilt meeting this evening. Happy stitching, Pauline
ReplyDeleteNice projects. We ate lunch out today and went for a long ride to a town south of us. We got some stuff to make a rock wall in our breeze way. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the pouches! Thanks for sharing your creations with us. Valentine plans...not much, just spend the day with my hubby, which is just how I like it. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your pouches. They came out really cute. On Valentine's day hubby of 32 years bought me flowers, then we went to our favorite restaurant and had dinner. It was a nice relaxing day! Thanks for sharing your projects and thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your pouches! The way you did your hearts are so creative! Wow! I would love to try to make one, I have never done blanket stitch, so I should practice that first! Bc nothing I do comes out nice the first time.
ReplyDeleteI love the pouches....zippers scare me....LOL...but I think I must try one soon....unfortunately my husband of 47 years is very sick with that cold that is going around....so I made him his favorite breakfast....and then we sat and watched movies all day....I finished some hand quilting...so I got to do what I like....then I made him some home made chicken soup for dinner.....the chicken soup must have worked....because he is feeling a little better today.....
ReplyDeleteVery sweet projects - thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteOur Valentine's Day was at home awaiting the arrival of our son for his reading week off from University.
well done on the zip totes. I love the one with the pouch-y orange heart
ReplyDeleteSince I am running a day late, my husband and I don't usually make such a big deal about Valentine's Day but that is only because our anniversary is in late January. We dated for 21 years and have been married now for 13 years so you can see why the anniversary might be more important now, LOL.
Love your pouches. I had big plans to make one also, but there are not enough hours in my day. We relaxed for V-day.
ReplyDeleteI missed Valentine's day because I had to go out of town for work. :( Oh well....I'm home now and we are celebrating with lots of R&R!
ReplyDeleteI ♥ to hear from you!
