Color Palette Inspiration

12:22:00 PM

Sew at Home MummyAs promised, I thought I'd write a post focusing on building a color palette in preparation for my upcoming quilt along, "Classic meets Modern".

I've done a few posts in the past with respect to color, inspiration and building a palette of your own. Here are a few links to those posts and a brief synopsis of each.

  1. Building a color palette: how to use Colour Lovers to create your own palette from a photo or virtual fabric swatch. This is a really handy tool, especially if you want to use a favorite fabric as your central focus; it helps you pair solids or blenders which you may not have thought would go together.
  2. Inspiration: Think simple. Inspiration is all around us. It's on the shampoo bottle in your shower and on the shirt of the girl that just walked by. It's the cityscape you're staring out at right now, it's on the bus that just drove by. Think outside the box when it comes to color and composition.
  3. Color: A two-part article series on the color of the year for 2013, Emerald, I wrote for Allisa Jacobs HERE and HERE. Includes more information on building color palettes and a great inspiration board app, The Inspiration Board.

Hopefully these links and posts get your creative juices flowing! I can't wait to see the block creations for the QAL. Remember, you'll be able to link up your blocks to the instructional post for each month!

The quilt along starts January 1. If you'd like to receive the PDF instructions each month, sign up HERE.

See you January 1!
