2014: New Year, New Fun - The "Classic meets Modern QAL" at Sew at Home Mummy

12:38:00 PM

Hi all!

Just a quick post and a sneak peak into what 2014 will bring here at Sew at Home Mummy.

As many of you already know, I took a few months off recently to welcome my brand new baby boy, Ewan:

Sew at Home Mummy: Simply Solids a modern {bee} Several of you in the Simply Solids: a modern bee have been asking about a second round for 2014. I've decided that I'm going to take a break from running the bee; I have high hopes that I'll have the energy to run another round come January 2015. Some really beautiful projects have come out of the bee, and with over 100 participants in 6 countries it's been a brilliant (although extremely time consuming) project.

If you haven't been over to our Flickr Group, you really should take a quick boo - the projects there are so impressive. I'm so proud of all of my Bee mates - the creativity is astounding, and I just hope that they had as much fun as I did with the Bee!

So. With a New Year should come new projects, am I right?

I've decided that, for this year, in place of the Simply Solids Bee, I'm going to run a "Quilt Along":

... inspired by the creativity in my Simply Solids Bee, I'll be running a monthly challenge to anyone who'd like to participate.

The challenge will be this:
I'll post and email the instructions to make one 12.5" 'classic' quilt block at the beginning of each month, for a total of 12 different blocks, from January - December 2014. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to put a 'modern' spin on these 'classic' blocks, using color, fabrics, and your creativity. By December you'll have 12 beautiful 'classic meets modern' sampler blocks to create a quilt with.

At the beginning of each new month I'll host a linky-party, where you can link up a picture of your block to show it off to everyone else participating!

More information will follow in the coming days; if you'd like to sign up to receive the PDF block instructions at the beginning of each month, I'll have a sign-up spot for you to do that too. I will also be posting tips on creating a modern color palette.

What do you think? Are you up for the challenge? Do you think your bloggy friends might be, too?

...stay tuned, more in the coming days!!

    1. Blogger-Wordpress relations make me appear 'no reply.' I think they are trying to fix it, but the fix requires a smart phone. Sigh.
