The {Polar} Bear Paw Block: Classic meets Modern QAL, JANUARY!

12:30:00 AM

Hello all!

Welcome to the Sew at Home Mummy "Classic meets Modern" 12-month Quilt Along

*Please note in the sidebar to the right the link to each month's post and linky party.*

January is here, and that means: our first block!

And since it's so very cold outside in a lot of the world, I thought we'd go with an 'arctic' theme...okay, I'm stretching it here...I renamed our block to make it a little 'chillier'...
Without further adieu, the {Polar} Bear Paw Block!

Instructions for the January {Polar} Bear Paw block HERE.

Remember that your challenge for this QAL is to put YOUR interpretation of a modern spin on these classic, traditional blocks.

I've decided to create two blocks a month as inspiration for you; one will be using all solids, the other, a print pattern with coordinating solids.

(The print collection I've chosen is "Simply Color" by V. and Co. for Moda).

Here are my two blocks for January!

Make sure to link up your block creations below, and upload them to our Flickr Group!

In celebration of the kick-off of this QAL, I'm offering up a giveaway!

All those who link up a photo below of their block (and the block has to be a new one, created just for this QAL, not one in a current quilt or UFO) will be entered in the drawing. I will draw TWO winners February 15 and notify them here on my blog and by email (so ensure when you're linking your photos up that you enter a valid email address when prompted to.)

And what will the winners win?

Winner 1 - a modernish collection of fabrics:
Charm Pack of "Snap POP!" by Sandy Gervais for moda:

Winner 2 - a more 'Classic' collection of fabrics:
Mini charm pack of "Tapestry" by Fig Tree & Co. for moda

  8. Just found your blog and this wonderful QAL. I am new to quilting so I don't have any fabric lines. I do have tons of fabric from my sewing clothes and things for my kids. I'm gonna see what I have in my stash to use for these blocks. Can't wait to start. Love the first block. So fitting for this time of year especially with the polar freeze everyone has been encountering.

  9. I have a question. I just finished my blocks and tried to upload them but I can't because I don't have a blog. Can I still be part of this QAL even though I don't have my own blog? Is there another way I can upload my photos? I am sorry for the questions but I am new to all of this. I am super excited to see what the next block is gonna be. Thank you!

    1. Hi Lisa!
Unfortunately you're a no-reply blogger so I can't email you back, so hopefully you check back for my response!
You can most definitely participate if you don't have a blog! If you want to add your photo to the link up above, you can do so using Flickr. Just upload your photo to Flickr then copy the shared URL from their site to link up here on my page!
Can't wait to see your block!

  10. I am so glad I checked back. Is there a way to change the no reply? My email is craftingmomma07@gmail.com. I've already uploaded to flicker. I had so much fun with this block I might do a few more in different colors. I should have made the claws/triangles a different color. But I am learning. Super excited for the next block.
